"Sabina Abehenva" was one of over 10,000 registered Compassion Children in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, when the region suffered from the influx of millions of Rwandan refugees and bloody conflicts of the war in Rwanda developing into horrific local conflict. Sponsored by Greg and Teija Zwajgenberg in 1996 and provided with health care, meals, uniforms, all required books, study material and supporting supplies for her High-School education, sadly contact was lost with Sabina in 1997 after the first year of sponsorship and we never reconnected.
When saving lives across the world there are unrelated consequences of the situations these children are living in, and in some cases they fall victim to their circumstances. Sabina is the unintended victim of brutal regimes that exist across the world, and she is a symbol of why we do what we can, against the odds. From her Letters when last connected to Compassion, and from the heart of a Christian girl:
"...I don't know how to thank you, my joy of having such a friend like you, may God Bless you, may God be praised for what you have done"
Embedded in Sabina's words, and despite the senseless brutality of the world around her, Sabina's heart and our Imagination Foundation's maxim "...To God Be The Glory"
